Simple endoscopic score of Crohn disease and magnetic resonance enterography in children: Report from ImageKids study
Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Sep 27, 2019
Weiss B, Turner D, Griffiths A, et al. - In 237 children (age 11.5 ± 3.3 years) with Crohn disease (CD), in whom failure of ileal intubation is common and may impair simple endoscopic score of Crohn disease (SES-CD) calculation in clinical studies, researchers examined the ability of magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) to impute the SES-CD. The study sample consisted of children with CD who had ileocolonoscopy (scored by SES-CD) and MRE (scored on a 100 mm visual analogue scale [VAS] and by MaRIA). Data reported that the agreement between SES-CD and MRE was 75% in the ileum, and 68% to 85% in the colonic segments. Investigators found that the sensitivity and specificity of ileal MRE-VAS for MH were 91.7% and 53.1%. In children without ileal intubation, the ileal MaRIA score was higher than in others. According to this substudy of the prospective ImageKids study, in pediatric clinical studies, MRE is useful for imputing ileal disease, overcoming the problem of ileal nonintubation.
