Silent myocardial infarction and subsequent ischemic stroke in the Cardiovascular Health Study
Neurology® Aug 06, 2021
Merkler AE, Bartz TM, Kamel H, et al. - An independent association of silent myocardial infarction (MI) with subsequent ischemic stroke was found, post-adjustment for demographics and comorbidities, in the Cardiovascular Health Study.
A total 4,224 community-dwelling people ≥65 years of age without prevalent stroke or baseline evidence of MI were included.
An incident silent MI, incident overt MI, and an incident ischemic stroke occurred in 362 (8.6%), 421 (10.0%), and 377 (8.9%), respectively.
Overt MI was related to ischemic stroke both in the short term and long term.
Link between silent MI and stroke was limited to nonlacunar ischemic stroke in secondary analyses.
