Significance of third trimester Ultrasound in detecting congenital abnormalities of kidney and urinary tract – A prospective study
Journal of Pediatric Urology Apr 12, 2019
Arora M, et al. - In this prospective observational study, 32,443 females were screened to estimate the incidence of antenatal hydronephrosis (ANH) and also the significance of third-trimester scan in the detection of congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT) postnatally. They detected hydronephrosis in 269 cases with an incidence of 0.83 % for antenatal hydronephrosis. The probability of postnatal CAKUT was 23% with RPD < 10 mm whereas the possibility of postnatal CAKUT was 86% with RPD > 10 mm in the third-trimester scan. Resolution of 60% of cases of hydronephrosis detected in the second-trimester scan took place in-utero.
