Significance of tertiary Gleason pattern 5 in patients with Gleason score 7 after radical prostatectomy: A retrospective cohort study
OncoTargets and Therapy Sep 06, 2019
Li J, Guo Y, Qiu S, et al. - Researchers undertook this retrospective study and examined patients with prostate cancer with a Gleason score (GS) of 7 after radical prostatectomy (RP), to assess the link between tertiary Gleason pattern 5 (TGP5) and biochemical recurrence (BCR) in these individuals. This study included 350 patients who underwent RP at the West China Hospital from January 2009 to December 2017 and were graded as GS 7 (3+4 or 4+3). Patients with TGP5 vs those without TGP5 exhibited a significantly higher risk of BCR. For patients with primary Gleason pattern 4, a statistically significantly higher risk of BCR was observed in patients with Gleason 4+3/TGP5 vs Gleason 4+3. Overall, findings revealed strong link of TGP5 with the risk of BCR in patients with GS 7. In these patients, BCR was independently predicted by TGP5.
