Shoulder symptoms and quality of life impact of limited neck dissection after de-intensified chemoradiotherapy: Secondary analysis of two prospective trials
Head & Neck Apr 21, 2019
Wang K, et al. - A total of 147 participants were evaluated to examine the quality of life impact of post-radiation therapy (RT) superselective/selective neck dissection after de-intensified chemoradiation for human papillomavirus-associated oropharynx cancer. They noted 48 candidates with post-RT neck dissection. They observed that 37% and 13% of subjects receiving post-RT neck dissection had Shoulder Score ≥ 1 (any shoulder symptoms) and ≥ 2 (symptoms influencing work/hobbies), respectively, vs only 16% and 3% of cases not receiving post-RT neck dissection at 2 years. An association of post-RT neck dissection was noticed with Shoulder Score ≥ 1 and Shoulder Score ≥ 2 at 2 years, but not H&N-35 or EAT-10 scores.
