Shorter interval between radiation therapy and salvage laryngopharyngeal surgery increases complication rates following microvascular free tissue transfer
American Journal of Otolaryngology Jun 15, 2018
Formeister EJ, et al. - Experts assessed how the length of time between radiation and salvage surgery for advanced laryngeal cancer with free tissue transfer reconstruction impacts complication rates. Postoperative complications, hospital length of stay, and the likelihood of feeding tube dependence were increased with less time between definitive radiation and salvage laryngopharyngeal surgery with free tissue reconstruction. These findings could be used by the reconstructive surgeons to help guide preoperative patient counseling and evaluate postoperative risk.
