Shortening the Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study visual acuity test utilizing a novel computer software: Reproducibility in control and patient eyes
Acta Ophthalmologica Apr 04, 2021
Cohen ADN, Mimouni M, El‐Yaniv R, et al. - In the present study, the researchers described and compared a method of computerized visual acuity (VA) testing software to the Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study (ETDRS) chart. Right eyes of volunteers (N = 109) and patients (N = 126) were included in this prospective study. Participants were tested in a random order twice with the ETDRS chart and twice with the VA software. This research reveals that by using VA testing software with advanced threshold testing algorithms, the authors were able to replicate and exceed the ETDRS chart's reproducibility while presenting substantially fewer letters.
