Short-term outcomes of robotic gastrectomy vs laparoscopic gastrectomy for gastric cancer
JAMA Oct 19, 2021
Ojima T, Nakamura M, Hayata K, et al. - The short-term surgical outcomes of robotic gastrectomy (RG) vs laparoscopic gastrectomy (LG) for resectable gastric cancer were compared.
A randomized clinical trial including 241 patients with resectable gastric cancer (clinical stages I-III).
No significant difference was evident in the incidence of intra-abdominal infectious complications (the primary end point).
The LG group had significantly higher overall incidence of postoperative complications of grade II or higher when compared with the RG group.
Overall findings suggest that intra-abdominal infectious complications do not reduce with RG vs LG for gastric cancer.
