Short term outcomes of pulmonary embolism: A national perspective
Clinical Cardiology Aug 23, 2018
Shah P, et al. - Researchers examined a cohort, which came from the National Readmission Data 2013-2014, to provide real time data on 90-day mortality, bleeding and readmission in patients with pulmonary embolism (PE). Of 260,614 identified patients with primary admission PE, 55,659 (21.36%) patients sought readmission within 90 days; the most important etiologies being pulmonary disorders, malignancies and bleeding disorders. A pulmonary embolism was more likely to develop in older female patients. Multivariate analysis revealed patients with heart failure, chronic pulmonary disease, anemia, malignancy and with higher Charlson score had higher readmission rates and 90 days mortality.
