Short-term diabetes remission outcomes in patients with BMI ≤ 30 kg/m 2 following sleeve gastrectomy
Obesity Surgery Aug 26, 2019
Widjaja J, et al. - Given that bariatric surgery is recommended for T2D in Asian patients with BMI 27.5–32.4 kg/m2, researchers sought for the reported evidence, especially following sleeve gastrectomy (SG). From June 2016 to June 2018, they included and analyzed 18 eligible patients (7 male and 11 female; mean age: 46.3 ± 11.9 years; diabetes duration: 31.8 ± 26.5 months) who underwent SG as primary surgery at their setting. The main criteria were patients with T2D, without insulin use and BMI 27.5–30 kg/m2. Outcomes suggest that SG can result in both improvement and remission of T2D in these patients in short-term, and also under strict selection criteria.
