Short-term changes observed in multiparametric liver MRI following therapy with direct-acting antivirals in chronic hepatitis C virus patients

European Radiology May 17, 2019

Bradley C, et al. - For the evaluation of changes in liver composition, perfusion and blood flow, authors conducted a study in 17 patients before direct-acting antiviral (DAA) treatment and after treatment completion (within 12 weeks of taking their last DAA tablet). An acute reduction in liver T1, T2, and T2* was evident in cirrhotic patients treated with DAA for the hepatitis C virus and a rise in liver perfusion measured with the aid of MR parameters. Better knowledge regarding the natural history of regression of liver disease will be acquired via the ability of MRI to assess changes in the angioarchitecture of patients with cirrhosis after intervention. MRI can sensitively measure changes within the liver, which could reflect the reduction in inflammation with viral clearance.
