Short-term changes in intraocular pressure after intravitreal injection of bevacizumab for the treatment of retinopathy of prematurity
Clinical Ophthalmology Dec 16, 2019
Obata S, Higashiyama T, Imamura T, et al. - In this prospective case-series involving five patients (four boys), researchers assessed short-term changes in intraocular pressure following intravitreal injection of bevacizumab (IVB) for retinopathy of prematurity. Consecutive infants had bevacizumab intravitreal injection at a university hospital for type 1 retinopathy of prematurity. At baseline, at 1 min, and at 3, 10, 30 and 60 mins after injection, intraocular pressure was measured with tonometer. In all five infants, intraocular pressure was elevated at 1 min after the injection. However, for neonatal infants, the elevation of intraocular pressure after IVB may be mild, so the risk for retinopathy of prematurity due to intraocular pressure after IVB may be limited.
