Short-chain fatty acids, prebiotics, synbiotics, and systemic inflammation: A systematic review and meta-analysis

McLoughlin RF, et al. - The available data on the impact of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), prebiotics, and pre- and probiotic combinations (synbiotics) on systemic inflammation was reviewed. Studies examining this impact showed significant heterogeneity in outcomes, nonetheless, approximately 50% of included studies reported a decrease in ≥1 inflammatory biomarker. Meta-analyses evidently supported the systemic anti-inflammatory effects of prebiotic and synbiotic supplementation.
