Short- and long-term changes of the pharyngeal airway after surgical mandibular advancement in Class II patients - A three-dimensional retrospective study
Journal of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery Nov 10, 2017
Ristow O, et al. - The objective of this work was to investigate the short- and long-term effect of mandibular-only advancement on pharyngeal airway space (PAS) changes via the cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and a new segmentation software. Researchers also ascertained the existence of an association between the forward movement and PAS gain. Bilateral mandibular-only advancement surgery caused a marked widening of the PAS in Class II patients. It was noted that the long-term adaption of the PAS occurred following the surgery, implying an additional gain of PAS over time. Sicat Air software appeared to be a sufficient and promising tool for PAS analysis.
