Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism Jan 25, 2020
Viuff MH, et al. - Researchers conducted this national cohort study to investigate morbidity, mortality and medicinal use in Turner syndrome (TS) and the effect of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in 45,X women. One thousand one hundred fifty-six females diagnosed with TS were identified in the Danish Cytogenetic Central Registry from 1960 to 2014, and, subsequently, Statistics Denmark randomly identified 115,577 age-matched female controls. Forty-four had never been HRT treated and 285 had been treated at some point among 329 45,X women. According to findings, overall mortality and morbidity have risen among women with TS. HRT tends to have a beneficial effect in women with 45,X karyotype on endocrine conditions, hypertension, and stroke, with no clear impact on mortality.
