Sex hormone binding globulin for prediction of gestational diabetes mellitus in pre-conception and pregnancy: A systematic review
Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice May 08, 2019
Faal S, et al. - This systematic review was conducted by researchers to evaluate how sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) relates to gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). The Cochrane Library, Medline, ScienceDirect, and Web of Science were examined for studies published up to February 2019 from the start of the databases. Of the 208 papers reviewed, the meta-analysis included 26 studies (n=6,668). Compared to healthy women, the level of SHBG was significantly lower in GDM pregnant women. SHBG was lower in the second trimester than in the first trimester and before conception. The outcomes of this systematic review indicate that this marker should be carefully considered in early pregnancy, as SHBG is significantly reduced in GDM pregnant women vs healthy women.
