Sex differences in the quality-of-life and functional outcome of cardiac arrest survivors
Resuscitation Feb 09, 2019
Nehme Z, et al. - Researchers determined how gender influence 12-month functional recovery and health-related quality-of-life (HRQoL) outcomes in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) survivors. Between 2010 and 2016, they identified 2,300 patients who were discharged alive. Of these, 175 (7.6%) died during the follow-up period; the rate of death at 12 months was higher in women compared to men (10.4% vs. 6.4%). Of the 2,125 12 month survivors, 1,752 (82.5%) participated in the structured telephone interviews. Outcomes revealed that compared to males, women reported poorer functional recovery and HRQoL after OHCA.
