Sex differences in discharge destination following acute myocardial infarction
Coronary Artery Disease Aug 10, 2018
Perl L, et al. - Via this observational analysis of 6,123 Medicare beneficiaries discharged after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) during the first quarter of 2016, researchers determined how sex and other baseline characteristics influence discharge destination post-AMI. In particular, discharge to skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), a factor associated with worse prognosis and greater costs to the healthcare system, was assessed. They found that even after adjustment for risk factors, discharge to SNF following AMI was more frequent for female patients. They reported that among subjects discharged to SNF or home, 36.33% of the female patients were discharged to an SNF vs 25.12% of the male patients.
