Sex-dependent reductions in high-molecular weight adiponectin during acute hyperinsulinemia are prevented with endurance training in older females
Clinical Endocrinology Feb 24, 2018
Consitt LA, et al. - The bifold aim of this study was to investigate the effects of age and sex on the plasma high molecular weight (HMW) adiponectin response to acute hyperinsulinemia and to ascertain if either endurance or resistance exercise training could influence this response. Regardless of age, the occurrence of inhibitory action of hyperinsulinemia on plasma HMW adiponectin was noted in females but not males. Older females were safeguarded against the hyperinsulinemic inhibition of plasma HMW adiponectin by 12 weeks of endurance training, which could promote healthy aging.
