Severity of COVID-19 and survival in patients with rheumatic and inflammatory diseases: data from the French RMD COVID-19 cohort of 694 patients
Annals of Rheumatic Diseases Dec 06, 2020
Hachulla E, et al. - This study was attempted to analyze epidemiological characteristics correlated with severe disease, than with death. Mortality was compared between patients hospitalized for COVID-19 with and without inflammatory rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (iRMD). Researchers included patients with suspected iRMD-COVID-19 in this French cohort. Logistic regression models adjusted for age and gender were applied to calculate adjusted ORs and 95% CIs of severe COVID-19. A total of 694 adults were included in the study. The data exhibited older age, male gender, obesity, and hypertension were found to be correlated with severe COVID-19 in the French RMD COVID-19 cohort, as already distinguished in the general population. The outcomes demonstrated that individuals with iRMD on corticosteroids, but not methotrexate, or tumour necrosis factor-alpha and interleukin-6 inhibitors, should be considered as more likely to construct severe COVID-19. According to the findings, unlike common comorbidities such as obesity, and cardiovascular or lung diseases, the risk of death is not significantly elevated in patients with iRMD.
