Severe vitamin D deficiency is a prognostic biomarker in autoimmune hepatitis
Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics Dec 03, 2018
Ebadi M, et al. - Researchers assessed the frequency of severe vitamin D deficiency in autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) and its association with non-response treatment, as well as the association between vitamin D status and liver-related mortality and need for transplantation in this study. A total of 209 patients were assessed by liver tissue examination. Using binary logistic regression and Cox proportional hazards model, univariate and multivariate analyses were performed. Results suggested an association of severe vitamin D deficiency with treatment non-response, progression to cirrhosis, and liver-related death or need for liver transplantation. Overall findings concluded that severe deficiency of vitamin D is a prognostic biomarker in AIH.
