Severe vitamin D deficiency is a prognostic biomarker in autoimmune hepatitis
Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics Dec 21, 2018
Ebadi M, et al. - In this investigation, authors assessed the frequency of severe vitamin D deficiency in autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) and its association with non-response treatment, as well as the association between vitamin D status and liver-related mortality and need for transplantation. They assessed 209 patients by liver tissue examination at presentation. Using binary logistic regression and Cox proportional hazards model, univariate and multivariate analyses were performed. Findings suggested an association of severe vitamin D deficiency with treatment non-response, progression to cirrhosis, and liver-related death or need for liver transplantation. It was concluded that severe vitamin D deficiency is a prognostic biomarker in AIH.
