Severe pulmonary hypertension associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: A prospective French multicenter cohort
Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation May 16, 2021
Dauriat G, Reynaud-Gaubert M, Cottin V, et al. - Researchers intended to detail cases with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) presenting severe pulmonary hypertension (PH) in this study based on a national registry. Patients with incident PH-COPD were analyzed. Participants were 99 patients selected from 13 French centers (82 males; median age 66.0 years [interquartile range 62.0-72.0]). Presence of marked dyspnea at inclusion (55.6% and 22.2% New York Heart Association class III and IV, respectively) was evident in the majority of patients. Findings revealed presence of moderate airway obstruction but marked dyspnea and marked hypoxemia, low lung diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide and high mean pulmonary artery pressure in cases with severe PH-COPD. Poor prognosis was observed in relation to this phenotype.
