Severe cutaneous adverse reactions due to inappropriate medication use
British Journal of Dermatology Jun 01, 2018
Chaby G, et al. - Experts ascertained the proportion of severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs) related to inappropriate medication use. They conducted a retrospective study of all validated SCARs collected in a French registry between 2003 and 2016. Findings suggested that in order to reduce the incidence of SCARs there was a requirement for respecting the appropriate indication. Seemingly, a necessary preventive measure was reducing unintentional rechallenge. Most frequently allopurinol and co-trimoxazole were the drugs involved in inappropriate indications. The largest group involved in unintentional rechallenge were the antibiotics. Most frequently involved in inappropriate self-medication were the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs available on prescription.
