Serum uric acid and cardiovascular mortality in chronic kidney disease: A meta-analysis
BMC Nephrology Jan 18, 2019
Luo Q, et al. - In this meta-analysis of 11 studies with 27,081 participants, researchers assessed the link between serum uric acid (SUA) and cardiovascular mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). These studies were identified from MEDLINE, Web of Science, and bibliographies of retrieved articles. The pooled hazard ratios and corresponding 95% confidence intervals were calculated using random-effects models. An increased risk of cardiovascular mortality was reported in patients with the highest SUA vs patients with the lowest SUA in meta-analysis restricted to 7 studies (n = 11,050), with no indication of publication bias or significant heterogeneity. With every 1 mg/dl increase in SUA levels, a 12% increased cardiovascular mortality risk was reported in the meta-analysis of 10 studies (n = 26,660), with significant heterogeneity.
