Serum urate levels and therapy in adults treated with long-term dialysis: A retrospective cross-sectional study
Internal Medicine Journal Mar 18, 2019
Yeo E, et al. - Among adults treated with long-term dialysis, researchers estimated the point prevalence of gout, gout treatment, and achievement of target serum urate (SU). For SU concentrations were obtained via medical record review. Of 216 patients with dialysis, gout was diagnosed in 61. According to findings, approximately one-quarter of adults treated with dialysis experience gout, and two-thirds are prescribed allopurinol. Despite allopurinol and hemodialysis, a minority have SU at a target sufficient to prevent gout. In those with SU above target, a treat to target SU should be considered.
