Serum parathyroid hormone and alkaline phosphatase as predictors of calcium requirements after total parathyroidectomy for hypocalcemia in secondary hyperparathyroidism
Head & Neck Oct 06, 2017
Ge P, et al. - An inspection was pursued of the efficiency of a calcium supplement formula guided by predicted calcium requirement in patients with renal failure after parathyroidectomy with autotransplantation. The intent was to prevent hypocalcemia. The postoperative calcium requirements could be speculated by the preoperative parathyroid hormone level (PTH) and alkaline phosphatase levels. It was done in such a manner that equations of calcium supplement enabled the management of hypocalcemia efficiently in patients on dialysis, following parathyroidectomy with autotransplantation.
