Serum non-cholesterol sterols and cholesterol metabolism in childhood and adolescence
Atherosclerosis Sep 20, 2018
Gylling H, et al. - In order to evaluate cholesterol metabolism in children without dyslipidemia, researchers analyzed 96 children (39 girls, 57 boys), divided into age groups <1 (n=14), 1–5 (n=37), 6–10 (n=24), and 11–15 (n=21) years. Outcomes revealed that, according to age, serum non-cholesterol sterols had different individual profiles in childhood and adolescence. Cholesterol absorption prevailed cholesterol synthesis from 1 to 10 years of age. This finding highlights the significance of dietary contributors to cardiovascular risk, even from early childhood.
