Omma A, Colak S, Sandikci SC, et al. - Thirty-four consecutive adult individuals admitted to the rheumatology clinic and who met the immunoglobulin A vasculitis (IgAV) American College of Rheumatology (ACR) criteria were recruited in a cross-sectional study by the experts in order to examine serum neopterin and ischemia modified albumin (IMA) levels and assess the relationship between these markers and disease activity and relapse. In the study group vs control group, serum median neopterin, IMA levels and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) were greater. IMA and hsCRP levels were significantly greater in the group with the active disease when assessed according to Birmingham Vasculitis Activity Score (BVAS). Serum neopterin levels were significantly greater in the active group in comparison with BVAS. Hence, in IgAV pathogenesis, oxidative stress was concluded as significant.
