Serum MMP-7 in the diagnosis of biliary atresia
Pediatrics Nov 10, 2019
Jiang J, Wang J, Shen Z, et al. - Researchers used a large population sample to confirm the diagnostic accuracy of matrix metalloproteinase-7 (MMP-7) for biliary atresia (BA). A total of 288 patients with neonatal obstructive jaundice were enrolled from March 2017 to October 2018. They used an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay to measure serum MMP-7 levels. They constructed receiver operating characteristic curves and performed decision curve analysis. For MMP-7, the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve value was 0.9829, and a sensitivity of 95.19%, specificity of 93.07%, positive predictive value of 97.27%, and a negative predictive value of 91.43% were yielded at a cutoff value of 10.37 ng/mL. Findings revealed good accuracy displayed by MMP-7 as a diagnostic tool for BA and MMP-7 holds promise for future clinical application. Its potential utility as a therapeutic target or prognostic biomarker was suggested by its correlation with liver fibrosis.
