Serum matrix metalloproteinase-9 is a valuable biomarker for identification of abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysm: A case-control study
BMC Cardiovascular Disorders Nov 02, 2018
Li T, et al. – In this study, researchers assessed the predictive and diagnostic efficacy of serum levels of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP9) for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA), and explored the link between MMP9 and circulating laboratory markers. Study participants included 296 individuals (105 AAA patients, 79 TAA patients, and 112 healthy control participants). The investigators used enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) to determine serum MMP9 levels. Findings revealed a close association of serum MMP9 with the existence of aortic aneurysms. Data also suggested that serum MMP9 could be a valuable marker for the discrimination of aortic aneurysm, especially for TAA.
