Serum levels of IL-32 in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and its relationship with TNF-α and IL-6
Cytokine Sep 11, 2019
Fadaei R, Bagheri N, Heidarian E, et al. - Among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) (n = 93) and healthy controls (n = 74), researchers undertook this investigation to unveil serum levels of interleukin-32 (IL-32) in patients with T2DM and its relation to cardio-metabolic parameters. In the T2DM group vs the control, independent elevated levels of IL-32 were identified. Furthermore, it was found to be related to an increased risk of T2DM incidence. In patients with T2DM, a positive correlation of IL-32 with body mass index, fasting blood glucose, tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), and IL-6 was identified. Furthermore, an independent link between IL-32 and IL-6 plus TNF-α was revealed in patients’ group in linear regression. Overall, higher levels of IL-32 related to inflammatory markers were found in T2DM patients. In these patients, the possible role of IL-32 in chronic inflammation was also indicated.
