Serum lactate as a predictor of neurologic outcome in Emergency Department patients with acute carbon monoxide poisoning

The American Journal of Emergency Medicine Jul 27, 2018

Jung JW, et al. - The predictive risk factor of neurologic outcome in patients with acute carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning was assessed and validated. Researchers analyzed a total of 453 patients admitted to the Emergency Department of Samsung Changwon Hospital with acute CO poisoning from January 2010 to June 2017. Findings suggest a correlation of initial serum lactate level with the patient neurologic outcomes. These levels demonstrated to have utility as the prognostic factor. Also neuron-specific enolase, and Glasgow Coma Score (GCS) were suggested as useful additional parameters that might forecast the neurologic outcome of acute CO poisoned patients.
