Serum hCG values are as predictive of live birth after single embryo transfer as early pregnancy ultrasound
Fertility and Sterility Sep 14, 2017
King N, et al. - This trial ascertained if hCG values after single embryo transfer (SET) were as speculative of live birth as the presence of cardiac activity on early pregnancy ultrasound. Substantial correlations existed between specific rises in early hCG values after SET and live birth. Similar positive predictive values (PPV) were yielded with live birth for pregnancies, that had hCG values which doubled and reached 100 mIU/mL and pregnancies with fetal cardiac activity (FCA) on an early ultrasound. The presence of early hCG values that doubled and reached 100 mIU/mL lowered the tendency of a miscarriage in a pregnancy with FCA on an early ultrasound. This data could aid in setting expectations for pregnancy outcomes soon after embryo transfer.
