Serum fibrinogen is an independent prognostic factor in operable esophageal squamous carcinoma: A real-world study
Cancer Management and Research Oct 17, 2019
Zheng Y, Li Y, Xing W, et al. - Researchers examined the link between serum fibrinogen and the prognosis of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. They used the Clauss method to measure serum fibrinogen levels in 1,331 operable esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) patients from the preceding 3 years. They evaluated the correlation between serum fibrinogen level and patient outcome and clinical pathological factors. Findings revealed a significant correlation of hyperfibrinogenemia with advanced pathological T stage and TNM stage. They identified serum fibrinogen as a worse independent survival predictor in ESCC. The estimated hazard ratio was 1.672 (95% confidence interval = 1.043–2.681). In this study, the role of serum fibrinogen level before surgery as an independent prognostic factor for survival in ESCC was evident, particularly for the early pathological TNM stage (I-II) and N0 patients.
