Serum cystatin C, impaired kidney function, and geriatric depressive symptoms among older people living in a rural area: A population-based study
BMC Geriatrics Nov 10, 2018
Wu L, et al. - In this population-based cohort study, researchers assessed the association of serum cystatin C (cysC) and impaired kidney function with geriatric depressive symptoms among older people living in a rural community in China. Participants were 1,440 individuals (age ≥ 60 years) who were recruited for the Confucius Hometown Aging Project in 2010–2011. A total of 669 (59.5%) of the 1,124 persons who had no depressive symptoms were re-examined in 2014–2016. Findings revealed an association of elevated serum cysC levels and impaired kidney function with an increased risk of geriatric depressive symptoms among Chinese older people living in a rural community.
