Serum androgens are independent predictors of insulin clearance but not of insulin secretion in women with PCOS
Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism Mar 12, 2020
Tosi F, Dal Molin F, Zamboni F, et al. - Researchers intended to determine if there is an association between metabolic clearance rate of insulin (MCRI) and the pathophysiological features of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The sample consisted of 190 women with PCOS, diagnosed according to the Rotterdam criteria, with normal glucose tolerance. In about two-thirds of women with PCOS, MCRI was impaired. For a number of anthropometric, metabolic and endocrine features, individuals with low MCRI distinguished from those with normal MCRI. For women with PCOS insulin metabolic clearance is reduced, which leads to hyperinsulinemia generation. Independent predictors of this phenomenon are serum androgens.
