Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels and depression in older adults: A dose–response meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies
The American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry Jul 04, 2019
Li H, et al. - In an older population, researchers explored how serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] concentrations are related with the risk of depression via a dose-response meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies. They analyzed six prospective studies with 16,287 older adults with 1,157 cases of depression. Older adults exhibited a negative correlation of serum 25(OH)D concentration with the risk of depression. The risk of depression decreases by 12% with every 10-ng/mL increase in serum 25(OH)D. Findings indicate the possible utility of increasing 25(OH)D levels to decrease the risk of depression in older adults.
