Septoplasty with or without concurrent turbinate surgery vs non-surgical management for nasal obstruction in adults with a deviated septum: A pragmatic, randomised controlled trial
The Lancet Jun 22, 2019
van Egmond MMHT, et al. - Via an open, multicentre, pragmatic, randomized controlled trial in 16 secondary and two tertiary referral hospitals and 203 participants, the researchers determined the effectiveness of septoplasty (surgical correction of the deviated nasal septum) for nasal obstruction in adults with a deviated septum. The occurrence of septal abscess in one surgical patient and septal perforation in two surgical patients was observed. However, no side-effects of nasal medication were listed. Hence, for nasal obstruction in adults with a deviated septum, septoplasty was observed as more effective than non-surgical management with sustenance up to 24 months of follow-up.
