Sepsis-induced activation of endogenous GLP-1 system is enhanced in type 2 diabetes

Perl SH, et al. - Researchers aimed to explore whether type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients showed different activation of the endogenous GLP-1 system during sepsis and whether it was influenced by diabetes related metabolic parameters. They revealed that during sepsis, endogenous GLP-1 system was activated. As compared to non-diabetic patients, T2D patients showed an enhanced and prolonged activation. During sepsis, extreme early increased GLP-1 levels indicated a poor prognosis.
