Sensitivity of non-contrast computed tomography for small renal calculi with endoscopy as the gold standard
Urology Apr 09, 2018
Bhojani N, et al. - Authors compared the sensitivity of non-contrast computed tomography (CT) to endoscopy for detection of renal calculi. For endoscopy, the mean number of calculi identified per kidney was 9.2±6.1 and 5.9±4.1 for CT. Findings demonstrated that the number of renal calculi was underreported by the CT scan, presumably missing some small stones and unable to differentiate those lying in close proximity to one another. Nonetheless, when compared to the total stone burden found on endoscopic examination, the total stone burden seen by CT was, on average, accurate.
