Sensitivity of fine-needle aspiration and imaging modalities in the diagnosis of low-grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the parotid gland
Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology Apr 25, 2019
Garrett SL, et al. - Investigators determined the diagnostic accuracy of fine-needle aspiration (FNA) and imaging modalities for low-grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) of the parotid gland in 2 candidates. They performed 31 FNAs on them. They observed 27 imaging studies including 16 participants with low-grade MEC and 11 with benign pathology. With a sensitivity of 39%, they observed 12 positive FNAs for low-grade MEC. Considering indeterminate results as positive, they suggested magnetic resonance imaging as an important diagnostic tool in the salivary gland neoplasms estimation, due to its increased sensitivity for low-grade MEC.
