Secretory carcinoma of the major salivary gland: Provincial population-based analysis of clinical behavior and outcomes
Head & Neck Apr 20, 2019
Ayre G, et al. - Researchers assessed 140 malignant salivary gland tumors to identify the number of cases of secretory carcinoma (SC) in a population-based cohort and also to review its clinical behavior with long-term follow-up. They identified 22 new SC cases. Nineteen cases among those 22 were originally listed as acinic cell carcinoma, and 3 as adenocarcinoma, not otherwise specified. They found less common lymph node involvement in SC tumors (5%) when compared to the control group (11%). As compared to the control group (20%), disease recurrence was detected less commonly in SC (9%). They noted the mean disease-free survival of 192 months for SC vs 162 months for controls.
