Second primary melanomas: Increased risk and decreased time to presentation in patients exposed to tanning beds
Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology Jul 19, 2018
Li Y, et al. - Authors assessed if certain features differentiate patients who developed melanoma following artificial ultraviolet radiation (arUVR). In melanoma patients exposed to arUVR, evidence for heightened surveillance was provided with the results. Greater lifetime exposure to arUVR was seen in younger women, especially vs patients age ≥40 years. A higher probability of exposure to arUVR was seen in patients with multiple primary melanomas at any age. In patients exposed to arUVR vs those not exposed, median time to diagnosis of second primaries was 225 days vs 3.5 years.
