Second-generation distal attachment cuff improves adenoma detection rate: Meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Oct 08, 2020
Patel HK, Chandrasekar VT, Srinivasan S, et al. - Researchers compared outcomes between second-generation cuff colonoscopy (CC) vs colonoscopy without distal attachment (SC) in this systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Using PubMed, Google Scholar, Embase, and Cochrane Library, an electronic literature search was performed through May 2020. Eight RCTs with 5,695 patients were used in the final analysis. There were 2,862 participants (mean age 62.8 years, 52.9% males) in the CC group and 2,833 individuals (mean age 62.6 years, 54.2% males) in the SC group. The data presented in this work showed that utilizing the second-generation cuff device vs standard colonoscopy offered a significant improvement in adenoma detection rate and adenomas per colonoscopy with shorter withdrawal times.
