Seasonality of mortality and graft failure among kidney transplant recipients in the US

Astor BC, et al. - This study was undertaken to investigate whether a seasonal difference exists for mortality or graft failure among kidney transplant recipients. Researchers identified significant annual variation in both deaths and graft failures. For this variation, potential explanations included changes in physiologic parameters, changes in medication adherence and other behaviors, or changes in insurance coverage or clinical care. Further studies were recommended to identify specific mechanisms.
