Screening young adult cancer survivors with the PROMIS Depression Short Form (PROMIS-D-SF): Comparison with a structured clinical diagnostic interview
Cancer Jan 16, 2020
Recklitis CJ, et al. - Researchers compared Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System Depression Short Form (PROMIS-D-SF) vs a structured diagnostic interview as a screening tool for young adult cancer survivors (YACS). This study included 249 YACS (aged 18-40 years) who completed the PROMIS-D-SF and Structured Clinical Interview for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th Edition (SCID). Findings revealed a moderately strong concordance between the PROMIS-D-SF and SCID with regard to depressive diagnoses and symptoms, however, cutoff t-scores did not meet the study criteria for clinical screening. Although the possible usefulness of PROMIS-D-SF for evaluating depression in YACS was suggested, its usefulness as a stand-alone screening tool in this population is anticipated to be restricted by the limitations in its sensitivity and specificity reported in this study.
