Screening of hyperlipidemia among patients with rheumatoid arthritis in the United States
Arthritis Care & Research Dec 19, 2019
Millán IN, Yang S, Chen L, et al. - Investigators examined data from US private and public health plans from 2006–2010 in order to ascertain the proportion of primary lipid screening among the individuals (n = 330,695) with RA and contrast with those among people with DM and people with neither RA nor DM, and assess whether primary lipid screening differed according to the healthcare provider (rheumatologist vs non-rheumatologist). They found that among individuals with RA, primary lipid screening was suboptimal. It was also lower and minimally distinct from the general community for people with DM. Moreover, for RA individuals who received care from both a rheumatologist and a non-rheumatologist (eg, primary care physician), higher screening was noticed.
