Screening of asymptomatic rheumatic heart disease among refugee/migrant children and youths in Italy
Pediatric Rheumatology Apr 09, 2019
Condemi F, et al. - From February 2016 to January 2018, researchers screened unaccompanied foreign minors in Italy to assess the utility and meaningfulness of ultrasound-based rheumatic heart disease (RHD) and ascertained the burden of asymptomatic RHD among them. They defined “definite” and “borderline” cases by the World Hearth Federation criteria. They observed screening for RHD among the abandoned migrant minors in Italy was feasible. They noticed higher prevalence of “borderline” cases vs that recorded in other studies, and a comparable burden of “definite RHD” to that seen in resource-poor settings.
