Screening mammography: Benefit of double reading by breast density
Breast Cancer Research and Treatment Sep 09, 2018
von Euler-Chelpin M, et al. - Using data from a screening program where radiologists coded their readings independently, authors examined whether a single reading could replace double reading of mammography examinations, at least for women with low-density breasts. Sensitivity was decreased by single versus double reading across all Breast Imaging-Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) density codes; this included results based on consensus BI-RADS density codes. Results suggested potential negative consequences for screened women with the replacement of double with single reading, even if density could be assessed automatically calibrated to the usual consensus level.
